5 Content Strategy Trends in 2023 to Watch Out For
2023 will be here before you know it, and if you’re like me — you’re probably wondering if you’ve crossed your t’s and dotted your i’s when it comes to content planning for the new year. When it comes to building a 2023-friendly content strategy and content planning trends, here are five predictions for what content strategy trends in 2023 we’ll see with both B2C and B2B brands:
Cut it short
Content is still king, but long-form content is losing its luster. Riding high for the last few years, long-form content is going to take a back seat when it comes to content strategy trends in 2023. Instead — concise language is the preferred form of messaging.
I could go into why this is, but to stay curt — write less, say more.
People first, SEO second
SEO will be important throughout 2023, but a major content strategy trend for 2023 will focus on writing being people-focused instead of just SEO-focused.
Yes, still have a focus keyword, but don’t write for that focus keyword and that focus keyword alone. Write for people, not for Google. If you write for people, they will listen and they will come to your website. In fact, 53 percent of web traffic comes from organic searches.
Influenced by testimonials
Whether it’s a client testimonial or it’s a sponsored ad with Kim Kardashian, influence is influence and content marketing is all about utilizing influence. Word-of-mouth is everything, especially because it’s effective.
According to SEMRush, “90 percent of people are much more likely to trust a recommended brand (even from strangers),” so it makes sense to find key influencers, key opinion leaders, and sponsored influencers to tell your brand’s story in 2023 — especially if they naturally connect with it.
Short-form video is the form
In the same way people say “content is king,” video has a colossal future with content marketing. The best way for brands, B2C or B2B, to use video is in short form. Anything else is too much.
Video content needs to be viewed quickly while getting its message across, which is another reason concise writing is a major content strategy trend next year. How short is short? Anything under 60 seconds is considered short-form, but even 30 seconds is an optimal length to catch an audience's attention.
Quality over quantity
One of the top content strategy trends in 2023 will be slowing down posting cadences for social media platforms. TikTok and Reels won’t slow down, they will only ramp up. However, in-feed posts on Instagram and let’s be honest…anything on Facebook will slow down to a few a week instead of once or multiple times a day. Why? …. Why not? With the Instagram algorithm impossible to figure out, why not scale back with a different posting cadence? Traditional posting cadences don’t make sense anymore — think quality content over quantity.
